and another two-a-day

For our first run today, we traveled to Penetenrety Glen (where the time trials race is held) and ran that course twice. It was a good run, and i think i actually know the whole course on my own now. The first lap felt pretty easy, and so did the second, but at the end zack sweet (euclid alumni who's been running with us since monday) and i sped up to around 5:15 pace and drasticly picked it up on the final uphill. Noone else seemed to try to stay with us, which i understand i just wanted to speed up a little bit.

Our second run was at night from Bill's house. The pace consistently was being pushed to around 7:15 or 7 flat, which made my legs and bills legs ache from the high mileage we've been putting in this summer, so the last mile (this run was 8.7 miles) we just let them take off. When we were about 200 yards away from bills house he told me and kyle to walk the rest with him as a mini cooldown. It was a nice run, i hope the 16 tomorrow won't suck too bad. Even if it dies, itwon't be as bad as ben getting his wisdom teeh pulled tomorrow lololol.
Today we (Me Bill ben tyler mike harris blevins kendig dan alex jared matt and kyle) "winged it" and just ran wherever we wanted to. Finally my stomach didn't hurt, the first run since saturday. We ran all the way down the train tracks to reynolds road and just winded through backyards and the backs of stores all the way to plains, then we just ran the half mile path into the back of veterans. The last 5 or 6 miles we were at or under 7 flat pace, and it felt good.

stomach fail

These last few days i haven't updatedmy runningblog here very much because i was more concerned about the well being of my stomach which had ben hurting a lot. On sunday i ran the johnnycake jog and my stomach hurt quite a bit during the race and i ran 28:38, not horrible but nowhere near what i'm capable of. Then the next day i ran 16.11 miles (our first run that was actually 16 miles, even over). The whole run my stomach hurt really bad, but towards the end, maybe the last 4-5 miles or so, it hurt to the point of me wanting to stop and walk but i would rather be injured than have to walk on a run. Anyways i finished that run and my stomach was sort of hurting throughout the rest of the day, but it went through waves like it would hurt a little, then not at all, ect. The day after that (yesterday) my stomach hurt so bad that i couldn't run with the group because of the pain. I forced myself to run 1 mile while they were gone and i was waiting for them, which was pretty terrible. At home the pain only worsened and i eventually had to go to the doctor's to see what was wrong. At first when i described what i was feeling everyone, including myself, believed my appendix had either burst or was swelling. After a bunch of checks and an xray, the doctor said it was a very painful growth pain from when your body thinks its done growing, but then starts to grow again and stretches the muscles out very quickly, especially in the abdomen /stomach area. Well this is wednesday morning and im about to leave for summer running, and my stomach is feeling much better and along with an advil i should be fine, tomorrow i probablywon't even needa painkiller.

today's run...AND MORE!

Today's run was an easy 10 miler. We ran with a big group, so i don't feel like thinking of each person. At the beginning my legs felt a bit heavy, and my legs leg was a bit swollen feeling / numb. Eventually that went away. As the run progressed, a run in which we made up the route as we went along, my legs felt lighter and lighter, and in the end we (me ben ryan and harris) were going pretty fast, and jokingly mimicing ryan's god-like long stride.

You may be wondering why i said AND MORE in the title. Well, I'm sure you've heard, whether on the national news, or just from the gossip all over the country, than some of the runners on our team were the front page of the sports section in the news herald. To see the article, check the album on my facebook, or try this link, but don't get your hopes up, links to facebook albums never seem to work...

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2028949&id=1101813049
hell's hollow

Today's (July 16) run was quite eventful and painful. We ran from hell's hollow, and pretty much weren't doing much but skipping rocks and making bridges accross the river out of rocks. It wasreally fun though. Eventually, there was a point where i was really far ahead of everyone trying to cross the river, and i slipped on a large rock and my full bodyweight landed right on the bone in my left thigh, and that hurt really bad. I had to limp up 260 stairs and close to a half mile back to our cars. After sitting around for awhile, i determined it wasn't fractured and just badly bruised, since if i put pressure on it i wasable to walk on it, which is a quality of bruising. After we drove home, i only had 1.8 miles in, and i needed five, so i sucked it up and forced myself to run the rest. I didn't leave veterans park and i was really hurtingmy leg. Eventually though, it just swelled up and the added pressure just made it go numb and the pain went away. Since I'm writing this a day late, I can officially say its not fractured since the run im about to post for today above here it didn't hurt at all, it was just slightly sore/numb. Looking back on it, it felt like slamming into a corner of something really hard with your elbow and hitting your funny bone, only so hard that the strange feeling lasts a longer time, and in your leg.

another 16 miler

Today we ran the same 16 mile course as we have been. At first, i felt really physically tired and mentally tired from running less than 12 hours ago. The first 3 or so miles were just me in a sort of dase not really focusing on anything besides how much I would probably struggle with the run. I even had to turn off the setting on my watch that tells me our pace and distance because i couldn't stop looking at it and dreading the run. Eventually we turned onto Jackson, and the run was silent because most everyone else was feeling just as tired as i was. Eventually, around 5 miles in, i broke the silence and said "The silence is only making this run like 5 times more terrible..." and somehow that sparked conversation within the group, but it died and regrew throughout the run. Right about the halfway point, I realized, "hey, i don't feel like crap anymore!" and the rest of the run was fun after that. We didn't hit any crazy fast paces during the run. When we got to the morton salt mine we were under 7, and the last half mile we were under 7 minute pace, but other than that we went slow, and even when the pace did increase i felt great, my breathing didn't really ever start to labor in the slightest. I ran this run with Bill tyler ben harris greg dan kendig molinar Kristen kyle kenny ryan and Jared.
another two-a-day

Ourfirst run this morning was really easy, we went to the Perry YMCA to run the old around the old Districts course. about a mile and a half in we were at the bottom of a monster hill and we stopped to skip rocks for like 10 minutes which was really fun. I think im really getting better at hills, cuz when we started to go up the really long hill ben and i jokingly sprinted for half of it, only to realize it was taller than we thought, but other than my breathing (which really doesn't matter cuz everyone sucks wind on hills) i felt really mentalls strong and i powered through it. We kept running around and it was nice to bring back memories of freshman year the the junior high 2 mile course that was also held here. Eventually we went back down to the skipping rocks area and went out onto this island thing, then tried to scale a cliff, then up the giant hill again and i still felt great. It was a nice run, exacly 5 miles on my watch.

Our second run we met at veterans park at night. We did the marsh loop +the extention, which is about 8 miles. John Distler was there which was nice cuz he always keeps the mood of the run a good, relaxed, and humorous enviornment. Me and ben talked to himabout all sorts of stuff it was cool. The extention and the regular woods part was realllyy dark at places cuz it was almost sundown, which only added to the fun! Another good run.
winging it

Today (July 13, had to post it a day late) we ran 12.27 miles. Unlike we normally do in the summer, we just ran anywhere and knew we'd go some distance between about 11 and 13, which is really nice. I felt really good the whole time, and Jared surprisingly kept up when some of the other expected varsity members fell back. He even talked to us towards the end about what he thought he could do these upcoming cross country and track seasons. At the end i looked at my watch and we were going like 6:15 pace and i wasn't even sweating or breathing hard and that felt really cool. I need to figure out how to feel like that every day, i think part of it is eating wekk and hydrating, and part of it is keeping a positive attitude during the run, and talking and joking around helps.
Ran by myself today from my house. I just ran as slow as i felt i needed to and i needed 3.5 miles to get 63 for the week. It was really really humid today though and since i don't take my inhaler for super short runs that made the run miserable. Good thing it was only an easy recovery day or i probably would have died lololol. I started out at like 9:30 pace and finished at 6:30 pace so i guess i felt better the longer i ran.
